Philippine Tourism Secretary Berna Romulo-Puyat led the online travel trade discussions on the status of the UK outbound travel market and new normal service preparations by the Philippines,
in a webinar conducted by the Philippine Department of Tourism last 07 July 2020.

The webinar was attended mainly by the members of the Philippine travel industry headed by Mr. Jojo Clemente, president of the Tourism Congress Philippines.

From the UK market side, key British trade partners were tapped to present on the UK market’s travel concerns during this pandemic, and propensity to travel to long haul beach destinations post Covid. Top-level executives from the Expedia Group, Bamboo Travel, STA and Sojern joined as market resource persons. They were consulted on the market’s latest trends and safety requirements to help improve the services of the Philippine service providers.

Philippine Airlines also participated and updated the audience on the resumption of its London-Manila service on limited capacity.

Based on the survey conducted by the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), 47% of British travellers are looking forward to going on holiday when lockdown ends, with 1 in 3 planning to have a beach holiday.

Secretary Puyat further adds, “although most Brits are looking at staycations and traveling within Europe in the short term, we are buoyed by their aspiration and demand for long haul destinations, particularly sun and beach holidays during the winter season.”
